I was doing some research the other day and I was struck by this idea.
“Your comfort zone isn’t a comfortable place”
It’s so true! Especially in the case for more “difficult”, less “defined” paths in life like pursuing work in ecology. I’m not trying to be dramatic, but hear me out –

I don’t know about you but when I first mentioned that I was changing my course of study to pursue wildlife conservation, people didn’t say “good for you for pursuing your passion”. Not initially.
Instead, people said –
- “You know it’s a tough industry to break into?”
- “Ecology doesn’t pay very well”
- “You won’t be able to find work here”
The list goes on. My point is that none of those sentiments were inspiring or encouraging. I felt like I had to prove (to both myself and the world) that I had made the “right decision” by stepping out of my comfort zone.
And what I found: you CAN get your foot in the door, you CAN get paid reasonably well, you CAN find work anywhere in the world that you love.
But I would have kicked myself (understatement) if I hadn’t pursued my dreams.
And that’s what I wanted to write on today.
“Your comfort zone isn’t a comfortable place”
In the short-term, maybe it is easier to “stay comfortable” but in the long-term, you will likely feel less and less comfortable in your decision to “take the safer option”.
It’s never too late to follow your passions, your “feel good”.
You will thank yourself in the long run, even if it’s logistically difficult, competitive or uncomfortable early on. When you make decisions that align with who you are, you will always be happy.
Can you relate to this?
After all, I’m sure you’ve heard “the magic happens outside your comfort zone”
I’m not sure who needs to read this today. But here it is.
If you’re making decisions, try to take the option that feels most aligned with your inner self, rather than what seems to be the easier or more comfortable option.
There’s always a way to make your dreams materialize when you keep your mind open to possibilities. Try not to stay in your “comfort zone” out of fear.
After all, what is “yours” won’t pass you by – and what is “yours”, what you want out of life, is whatever you say it is.

I can totally relate to this! Following my passion and where I felt the most “comfortable” didn’t align and it took me wayyy too long to finally branch out and try to go after that dream.
Your story is inspiring! Thank you for sharing it. Here’s to following our hearts and stepping outside of that “comfort” bubble.
Thanks Cece – appreciate you – and I know your own journey will take you big places!
I love this! I’m also trying to take on a new path that I’m genuinely passionate about. It’s difficult and without too much support from others, but I think it will be so worth it in the long run! Just gotta get through that uncomfortable stage!
Completely Jodi, transition times are always challenging – but formative in the long term. Hang in there x
So true! Completely agree with the part about how it might be comfortable now but might not necessarily in the future. Here’s to moving onwards and upwards.
Absolutely! Thanks Aleesha
Love this and definitely resonates with me since jumping into the blog scene myself is all very new and exciting and not the “norm” in my location. So happy for you!
Thanks Frankie – completely agree! Congrats on taking the leap of faith for your own blog!
